These are STANDARD FITTING MES low voltage bulbs which have an internal bi-metallic strip thermal switch, the bi-metallic strip causes the bulb to flash on and off once it has warmed up after a few seconds. Please note the thread is standard MES but the glass bulb on this flashing type is slightly larger than ordinary MES bulbs with a 15mm diameter.
The flashing rate is approximately once per second and the duty cycle is approximately 50/50, though this depends quite a bit on the voltage present in the battery supply at the time.
These were used in model emergency car lamps, the 60’s Dinky ambulance police car etc. and similar applications where a flashing warning light was needed. If you have constructed the Ladybird Books – “Magnets, Bulbs and Batteries” model lighthouse using a normal bulb, you can simply substitute it for one of these of the appropriate voltage to make it flash.

These parts came to us as part of a lot of surplus stock from a large ‘Mispec’ type Co. and have been kept in storage for some time, we have therefore classified them as ‘new other’, they are however pristine, stored with us sealed in original packaging, the photographs are representative of their general condition, being of some of our actual stock, and, as with all our products they come with a full guarantee.
