The SL6270C (originally manufactured by GEC Plessey Semiconductors) is a legacy silicon integrated circuit that functions as a gain-controlled microphone preamplifier and VOGAD (Voice-Operated Gain Adjusting Device).
It is designed to accept low-sensitivity audio signals from a microphone and compress them to provide a virtually constant output signal across a wide 50dB input dynamic range.
Key Technical Specifications
- Function: Audio Preamplifier / VOGAD / Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
- Operating Voltage: 4.5V to 10V (Absolute maximum: 12V)
- Voltage Gain: Up to 52dB
- Output Signal: Approximately 90mV RMS (held stable via AGC)
- Package Type: Typically an 8-pin DIP (Dual In-line Package) or SOIC-8
- Control: Attack and decay times are fully adjustable using external capacitors and resistors.
