Electrical connection is through 4 wires green, yellow, blue and black to a small molex type connector.
Yellow and Black are positive and negative (if only these are connected fan runs happily and other wires can be ignored), Green is the sense wire/tachometer speed control, Blue is the pulse width modulation wire.
4-wire fans have a PWM input, which is used to control the speed of the fan. Instead of switching the power to the entire fan on and off, only the power to the drive coils is switched. The PWM signal drives the fan directly; the drive FET is integrated inside the fan.

These parts came to us as part of a lot of surplus stock from a large Milspec type Co. and have been kept in storage for some time, we have therefore classified them as ‘new other’.
