General Description
The SAA1027 is a bipolar integrated circuit intended for driving a four-phase two-stator
motor. The circuit consists of a bidirectional four-state counter and a code converter to drive
the four outputs in the sequence required for driving a stepper motor.
Features
• High noise immunity inputs
• Clockwise and counter-clockwise operation
• Reset facility
• High output current
• Outputs protected against damage by overshoot.
DIP-16 package
Genuine Philips part new and tubed but old stock.
Supply voltage range Vcc 9.5 to 18 V
Supply current, unloaded Icc typ. 4.5 mA
Input voltage, all inputs
HIGH VIH min. 7.5 V
LOW VIL max. 4.5 V
Input current, all inputs, LOW Iil typ. 30 µA
Output current LOW Iol max. 500 mA
Operating ambient temperature range Tamb -20 to +70 °C

The bias resistor must be 470 Ω × 1/2 W if the stepper motor needs less than 250 mA current. If the current is in the range between 200 and 350 mA per phase, this resistor value will be reduced to 150 Ω × 1 W.
This block has three inputs:
1. The pulses that move the motor are applied to the trigger input.
2. To the direction input, we apply the logic level determines whether the stepper motor runs forward or backward.
3. The set input, when connected to ground, continuously supplies power to two of the windings, braking the motor.
As can be seen in the main photograph these have no makers logo, they were originally manufactured by Mullard and Philips so we suspect they were made by one of them.
What you see in the above photographs is what you will get ie. the picture is of one of our actual stock so you can check condition date code etc.
Now Obsolete!

PLEASE NOTE!
These parts came to us as part of a lot of surplus stock from a large ‘Milspec’ Co. and have been kept in storage for some time, we have therefore classified them as ‘new other’. They are however in good serviceable condition, stored with us still in their original packaging/tubes, the photographs are representative of their general appearance, being of one of our actual stock, and, as with all our products they come with a full guarantee.
If you have similar items to this, or indeed any electronic components that are surplus to requirements please contact us with details.
