The 2N3172 is a silicon PNP power bipolar junction transistor (BJT) manufactured by various companies in the 1980’s, here we have for sale parts made by Semicoa.
In historic electronics databooks (such as the ECA comparison guides), the abbreviation SCA was explicitly used to denote Semicoa, which manufactured specialized, high-reliability silicon PNP power transistors like the 2N3172.
Originally established in Costa Mesa, California, Semicoa specialized in military, aerospace, and high-reliability semiconductor devices before its brand and manufacturing operations evolved over the decades.
