These were designed for use with a mating socket that incorporates the optional cable strain relief clamp that is sometimes used with this connector range, the locking ‘hook’ at the tip of the latching wings is high enough to lock in place if a cable clamp has been used on the mating socket. Connection between plug and socket is made, and the latching wings lock the socket in place, the difference between the two types can be observed in the gallery photographs. The latching wings once locked into place secure the socket to the plug so it cannot be accidentally dislodged.
Polarised Ribbon Cable Mounting Plugs.
2 rows of straight pins housed in a boxed surround with polarising locating ‘Notch’, designed to be mated with a polarised socket. The polarising ‘bump’ on the socket slides into the receiving ‘notch’ on these plugs, they would of course still mate with a non polarised socket.

Connection – With the latching wings on the plug pushed out, it is in the receiving position, as the socket is pushed into the plug housing the latches are forced upward into the locked position securing the socket in place (see note above re use of strain relief clamp), to disconnect, the latches are pushed outward and down, the socket is then lifted, and disconnects.
All these connectors are identical in design and colour, only the number of pins varies.
These are a standard IDC connector and will mate with any standard IDC ribbon cable mounting socket, they are unusual in that normally the socket is situated on the ribbon cable and the plug is fixed or PCB mounted – these plugs can be free mounted to ribbon cable or fixed in one place via the fixing holes provided (with hex head recesses).
