Sanyo LCD Backlit Liquid Crystal Display
Dimensions: PCB-190mm x 54mm. LCD-145mm x 30mm

Description: PCB has 6 large surface mount Sanyo integrated circuits, 3 x LC7940, 1 x LC7942, 1 x LC7980, and 1 x LC3517BML-15.
The three LC7940’s are the LCD driver chips to the LCD display. The LC7942 is another LCD driver designed to work with the LC7940. THIS is the important one the LC7980 this is stated as the LCD CONTROLLER designed to interface with a CPU / microthe last one 3517BML-15 is 4096 word x 8 Bit Static Ram Chip.
These were supplied to us as part of a “job lot” of surplus stock and are brand new and still in Sanyo packaging, sealed with protective film on the display. An initial search yielded no data on these, other than the dimensions and description given – fortunately a recent very satisfied customer has supplied the following link which shows the display working…

Sanyo LCD DG06Z 4BL3 Liquid Crystal Display info connector is 16 pins.
Display is 40 X 240 its a 2048 word X 8bit
A negative supply is needed for contrast Controller LC7980 8bit parallel interface, can be interfaced with 68xx series and 80xx series I selected 8080 mode: For 80xx mode, on the PCB must do some mods, the MS pin must be cut (from vdd) and tied to GND (thru 2kohm res), CS to GND, RD to Vdd. CN 16 pins 1 led + 12v (backlight) 2 GND (ground) 3 Vdd +5v (lcd supply) 4 CS (chip select) 5 Vee (-11v thru 22k pot trimmer ) 6 RS (register sel) 7 WR (write-80xx) 8 RD (read -80xx) 9 DB0 (data bit0) 10 DB1 11 DB2 12 DB3 13 DB4 14 DB5 15 DB6
