These ribbon cable mounting IDC plugs are quite a rarity, it is more usual to have a socket mounted to the cable with the corresponding plug soldered directly to a PCB.
IDC ( Insulation displacement connector)
They have a cut out notch in the centre of the plug body to receive the ‘bump’ on the mating socket – this ensures they can only be mated one way round.
The Connector has square profile gold plated pins within the the boxed mating section and tin plated pins below designed for IDC connection.
