IDC – Insulation Displacement Connector
2.54mm (0.1″) Pitch.
These connectors are designed to be soldered ‘through hole’ to a PCB.
Use with standard 2.54mm pitch ribbon cable, the top clamp is removed and the ribbon inserted, when clamp is re-fitted and pressure applied contact is made with each pin as the insulation displaces the clamp needs to be pressed firmly into place, special tools are available for this but satisfactory results can be achieved by the hobbyist if care is taken.
